Frequently asked questions
Is Fide Forensic Foundation a government body?
No. The Foundation is an independent Section 8 not-for-profit. Our panel comprises retired senior forensic scientists from India’s top government institutions, providing objective, third-party scientific scrutiny for the defence.
Why should an official FSL report be challenged?
Under Indian law, a State FSL report is an "Expert Opinion", not an absolute factual finding. We audit the raw data, methodology and chain of custody to find errors or overreach that often go unnoticed by counsel without forensic training.
Can the Court rely on your Expert Opinion?
Section 39 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 makes the opinion of a scientific expert relevant, so the Court can receive it. Whether it is admitted, and how much weight it carries, is for the Court to decide.
At what stage should the Foundation be engaged?
Immediately. Early involvement, during investigation or bail, lets us advise on summoning raw data under Section 94, BNSS 2023, before it is lost, overwritten or compromised.
Will your experts testify in person?
Yes. Empanelled scientists are available for formal testimony, cross-examination and depositions in any Indian court, in person or by video conference.
Do you handle cases outside Hyderabad?
Yes. The Foundation works pan-India, supporting defence counsel across all 28 States and 8 Union Territories, from Magistrate courts to the Supreme Court.
Which forensic disciplines do you cover?
DNA evidence, biological and serological evidence, digital and electronic evidence, toxicology and chemical analysis, questioned documents, ballistics and firearms, and forensic medicine (MLC and PME report review).
What do your services cost?
Legal aid matters are free when referred through SLSA, DLSA or an empanelled legal aid NGO. Other matters pay a standard engagement fee. As a Section 8 not-for-profit, every rupee received goes back into the Foundation’s free legal aid casework.
What exactly will I receive after submitting a case?
A Technical Audit Report, a formal Expert Opinion and a Cross-Examination Roadmap, prepared for use in court by instructing counsel.
How will I know whether there are grounds for a scientific challenge?
Send us the forensic report. Within 48 hours you receive a Preliminary Feasibility Assessment that says plainly whether valid scientific grounds exist and whether an independent review is worth pursuing.
